Sometime in July 2003, I started looking at a web site called petfinder.com.  I heard some radio spots about adopting pets so I started checking it out.  Sue and I had both discussed and agreed that it would be difficult to find another cat that was as well-behaved as Polly was so we both never really considered getting another cat.  But here I was - checking out the on-line pet adoption scene.

I became very intrigued by one male cat in particular named Oliver.  The description was describing the perfect cat for us and I felt a bond with the cat in the picture!  I showed the web site to Sue and she agreed.  We decided to call and arrange to adopt him.

On August 7, 2003, we drove up to Shoreline to pick him up.  They took us to a large caged area where there were quite a few cats inside.  When I went inside, I was looking for a black cat.  When I was introduced to Oliver, I was quite shocked to see that he didn't look anything like his picture.  (We later found out there was a mix-up with the picture so Oliver's real picture never made it to the web site.)  I had great misgivings when I met the real Oliver because I had my heart set on the cat in the picture.  This Oliver was a black-and-white tuxedo cat and looked completely different!  Oliver seemed to turn away like he could feel my disappointment in him and he was taking it personally.  I felt bad for judging him solely on his looks.  It wasn't his fault they put the wrong picture on the web site!

Sue and I agreed that we drove up there to pick up a cat so we adopted Oliver.  It wasn't until we brought him home and let him out of his kennel that we saw that he only had a little stubby tail!  He very quickly checked out the house and then disappeared behind our bed for a day or so.

When he emerged two days later, he was shy at first but over time, he became quite settled into his new home.  He especially likes Sue and stays close to her whenever he has the chance!
